When healing touches the body... and the heart: Salima's story

In a remote region of South Sudan, several hours' walk from any health infrastructure, Salima* has come a long way. Having come to the Doro clinic for simple medical treatment, she found much more than care. This place, where bodies are cared for while hearts are nurtured, marked a turning point in her life. Her story is a reminder of how an act of compassion can transform a destiny.

Salima*, a woman from a village four hours' walk from Doro, was four months pregnant. She had never been to a maternity hospital in her life, and had delivered her four children at home. She began to suffer from rashes and considered being treated with medicinal preparations by a traditional doctor in her village. She did so twice in one month, but with no improvement.

An encounter that changed everything

Then she met a man in her village who advised her to seek treatment at the Doro clinic. She went to our clinic, where she was diagnosed with a fungal infection and began treatment with an antifungal cream. She was also suffering from malnutrition and was admitted to the nutrition program. She had the opportunity to hear the Gospel

The Doro clinic: A place of hope in the midst of suffering

A few weeks later, she came for a check-up and was delighted by the healing of her skin and the improvement in her nutritional status. She also took the opportunity once again to be counselled by the clinic's chaplain, and accepted Jesus as Lord.

Every year, around 50,000 patients are treated at the Doro Clinic. The team - made up of men and women from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds - provides high-quality medical care, while taking the time to listen, pray and give hope.

The clinic offers a variety of services, including general medical consultations, prenatal care, a nutrition program and care for leprosy patients. Three chaplains are on hand to provide spiritual guidance to those who need it.

In this context marked by conflict and poverty, the Doro Clinic becomes a place where lives are restored - physically, emotionally and spiritually.
