Statement of faith

God

There is one God who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God is the Almighty Creator, Saviour and Judge who governs all things according to His sovereign will, and He accomplishes His purposes for His glory among creation and in the Church.

God the Father

God the Father is the origin of all that is good. He is the initiator of creation and redemption, accomplished by his Son and the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ, at once entirely God and entirely man, entered history as the Saviour of the world. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, and lived an exemplary life, without sin, in perfect submission to the Father and in loving relationship with others. He died on a cross, was bodily resurrected and ascended into heaven, where He is an advocate for His people and is exalted as Lord of all.

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit makes the work of Jesus Christ effective for sinners, giving them spiritual life and incorporating them into the Church. He dwells in all who believe in Him and empowers them to love, serve, witness and obey God; He equips them with gifts and transforms them to be more and more like Christ.

The Holy Scriptures

The Bible consists of the Old and New Testaments. It is the written word of God, revealing his character and purposes to all peoples. The Bible is decisive in matters of faith and existence. The Holy Spirit has guided the human authors of the Bible, so that what they have written is inspired, entirely trustworthy and without error in all that it affirms.

Human beings

Humanity is the culmination of God's creation on earth, bearing His image, destined to have a relationship with Him and being the object of His redeeming love. All have sinned. The result is guilt, death and estrangement from God and the degradation of every aspect of human nature. Human beings are unable to save themselves from the punishment of sin and its power and from Satan's domination.

Salvation

Christ's sacrificial death, by which he suffered punishment in the place of sinners, is the only fully sufficient basis for God's gift of salvation, for every people, every culture and every age. It is the expression of his love and the embodiment of his justice. By God's grace, the repentant sinner who puts his trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as his only Saviour is reconciled to God, adopted by the Father into His family and given eternal life.

The Church

The universal Church is made up of all those born of the Spirit. Its expression is found in local communities of believers, called to worship, live in fellowship, proclaim the Gospel and make disciples among all peoples; to reflect the character of God, exercise mercy, fight for truth and justice and celebrate baptism and the Lord's Supper.

The spiritual world

The holy angels are spiritual beings who glorify God, serve Him and minister to His people. Satan is a spiritual being who was created by God but fell through sin. He, along with other evil spirits, are the enemy of God and humanity. He has been defeated by the work of Christ and is subject to God's authority and eternal condemnation awaits him.

Future

The Lord Jesus Christ will visibly return to earth in glory and He will accomplish the final triumph over evil. God will make all things new. The dead will be raised and judged. Unbelievers will suffer the eternal punishment of separation from God; believers will enter a life of eternal joy in fellowship with God, glorifying Him forever.
